Did you know? Exercise is great for virtually everything other than weight loss!

It is great for bones, muscles, core strength, sleep, heart health, mind health… There are so many physical and mental benefits of exercise. It’s just not great for weight loss. Why? In a nutshell – doing more makes you want to eat more. It is commonly thought that weight loss is about eating less and doing more. The body will not tolerate that for long. “Stop Counting Calories & Start Losing Weight” explains what happens when we try to eat less and/or do more. In our club, we eat better, not less.

Having said how great exercise is, let’s be honest, some people love it and many people don’t. This is why we encourage functional fitness. We’re not going to be suggesting marathons or gym regimes. Functional fitness aims to enhance overall strength, endurance, flexibility, coordination, and balance to help us to perform everyday tasks such as carrying groceries, lifting children, or climbing stairs, without strain or injury. Could you do a daily walk? Some arm press ups or leg lifts on the sofa? More gardening? More cleaning? Take up dancing? We’ll find things ‘do-able’ between us!
