Food & Nutrition

We seem to have forgotten why we eat. Yes, it’s enjoyable and sociable, but we eat because there are nutrients that we must consume, or we can suffer minor and major health problems. We can even go blind, or stunt growth, without eating what we need.

Essential in nutrition means “something that we must consume.” It’s a substance that our body needs, but our body doesn’t make it, so we must consume it. There are essential proteins (amino acids). There are essential fats (omega-3 and omega-6). There are no essential carbohydrates. That’s not to say that we shouldn’t eat carbohydrates – we have many carb-based recipes in the club – it’s to stress that we don’t need them. Government diet advice drives us to consume insufficient fat and protein, and too much carbohydrate, for optimal health.

A good diet is vital to maintain a healthy weight, to reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes and even cancer. Good food also means good mood. We simply feel better when we are nourishing ourselves with health-ful food.

We have over 600 articles in the club explaining everything from the benefits (yes!) of meat and dairy products, to what fibre is (and why it’s actually not ‘all that’!) We believe that the more you learn about food & nutrition, the more committed you’ll be to eating well. Start your ‘learn more/eat better’ journey today!
