Regular readers of these diet tips will probably have worked out by now that I am not a fan of sugar or artificial sweeteners (both can mess up your blood sugar and leave you wanting a lot more than an ice-lolly). So what can you have instead, to cool down, in any heat wave?
1. Frozen Smoothies. Peel and slice some soft bananas and stick the slices in a tub in the freezer. Hull and halve some strawberries and freeze them. When you need cooling down, stick the frozen chunks of banana and strawberries in a blender, with some fresh orange juice (the less juice you have, the thicker the smoothie) and blend the mixture. You will not be able to believe that there is no added sugar. (Try raspberries, blackberries, cranberry juice etc for variations). You can take this to work if there’s a fridge.
